My packaging journey

Packaging – it's complicated! There is so much you can read about packaging – should you use compostable, biodegradable, recyclable?

If you are interested in delving into this some more, here are some useful links I have found.

I literally spent days down a rabbit hole when researching the right packaging for Sunbird products – it’s a minefield and not as straightforward as we would all like.

I eventually chose the pouches you see on the website.

All component materials in the PE lined pouches are recyclable and made from sustainable sources however you will need to check with your local authority whether they are able to recycle these pouches. Sorry – I know that sounds like a cop out, but until the UK get’s its act together and offers a much improved recycling / waste removal system small businesses like mine are fighting an uphill battle.

I am continually looking for more sustainable packaging that functions well. If and when I am able to source a functional recyclable, reusable or home compostable alternative I will of course do so.

All labels are made from recycled paper.

If the business grows sufficiently I can opt for pre-printed bags which can be biodegradable / home compostable, but I am nowhere near the volumes needed for this at present. Please keep buying Sunbird products so that we can switch to pre printed bags!
